Just finished up a quick piece I did for a friend on his new Gary Hanel quad fish surfboard. I’ll admit, I was a bit nervous at first to paint on such a beautifully hand crafted surface, but by the end I felt the board and I made a connection to one another.

The shape of the board definitely served as an inspiration to the artwork.

Check out the bamboo fins.

Do you coat it with resin after or anything to protect it?

2 coats of crystal clear and 2 coats of matte finish varnish. Definitely a possibility it will wear a little with time, but hopefully it adds to the character of the board. Definitely better to get in there and paint before the resin coat.
